The fourth face-to-face participation meeting of the "GO ZERO-ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT IN FOOD SECTOR" project, coordinated by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanism and Climate Change, was held in Jelgava, Latvia, between 12-13 April 2023. The meeting was hosted by one of the participating partners, "Latvia University of Science and Techoogies".

One of the main objectives of the project is to improve the waste management skills of those working in the food sector and vocational high school students who will work in the food sector in the future. The project aims to contribute to the successful implementation of zero waste management in the food sector in partner countries and to help develop waste management systems in sub-sector of the food sector.

On the first day of the event, there were presentations on the current status of the project and discussions on the next steps for the training content for waste management in the food industry. The project team also engaged in various activities on creating training materials and preparing a roadmap for designing the website and e-learning platform.

On the second day of the meeting, presentations of the template for good practices were made and discussions and studies were held on the Industrial Symbiosis Guide, the next steps of the project and cooperation.

The project partners aim to develop the “Recommendation on Waste Management in the Food Sector” and the “Industrial Symbiosis Guide”. These resources are expected to provide guidance on best practices for waste management to those working in the food industry and will help ensure the successful implementation of zero waste management.

The meeting was held with the hospitality of The Faculty of Economics and Social Development (LBTU ESAF) and the valuable contributions of BTU ESAF' team.
